Tropical Storm Dorian strengthens as it moves toward Caribbean

Tropical Storm Dorian has strengthened a little.

According to the Met Office, as of 5 am on Monday the National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to issue advisories on Tropical Storm Dorian, which is currently located near 11.9N 56.4W or about 365 km east-southeast of Barbados.

Dorian is moving slightly north of west at 22 km/h.

The Met Office said a turn towards the west-northwest is expected later today and this motion is forecast to continue through Tuesday night.

It added that the system is forecast to slowly strengthen over the next few days and could be near hurricane strength upon entering the Caribbean Sea.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Dominica, Martinique, Grenada and its Dependencies.

The Met Office noted that on the current forecast track, the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago.
