Created : 14 December 2018
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a road traffic accident along the Uriah Butler Highway (UBH) which occurred in the wee hours of Friday morning and resulted in a truck carrying gas cylinders, flipping on its side.
Over 20, 100-pound cylinders, were thrown onto the highway as a result of the incident.
No one was seriously injured.
According to police, around 1:05 am, officers received a report that a truck carrying empty gas cylinders had overturned along the northbound lane of the UBH near Grand Bazaar.
No other vehicles were directly involved in the accident but one of the truck’s tyres broke through a fence surrounding a house near the highway and damaged a Honda Civic which was parked in the yard.
Appliances from the San Juan and Chaguanas Fire Stations responded and removed the truck to continue the free flow of traffic in the area.
The driver of the truck was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope following the accident.
He was expected to be discharged on Friday morning after receiving treatment for cuts and bruises and injuries to the back as a result of the crash.
