Truck driver shot at during Wallerfield robbery
Sangre Grande police are investigating a report in which a truck driver narrowly escaped with his life after he was shot by unknown assailants as he attempted to escape a robbery.
The incident reportedly took place around 3.30 pm on Monday in gravel pit at Block #3, Wallerfield.
According to reports, the victim went to the location with a ten wheeler vehicle, when he was confronted by two men.
One man, who had a jersey over his face, pointed a firearm in the direction of the truck driver and ordered the driver to stop.
The driver told police that he was initially shocked by the events, and before it could properly register, the assailant allegedly opened fire, causing damage to the front of the truck.
Fearful for his life, the victim then drove off, and in the process collided with another vehicle parked along the roadway.
The victim managed to escape and make his way to the Pinto Police Station where a report was made.
The officers made their way to the location, where the victim said that the incident took place, and observed vehicles with bullet holes, as well as a damaged second vehicle.
However, none of the suspects were spotted.
