T&T Coast Guard holds three, seizes packets of drugs in Gulf of Paria

Three men were held and a total of 49 packets of what appeared to be marijuana was seized after a pirogue was intercepted in the Gulf of Paria.

The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force said in a statement issued Sunday that around 4:30 pm on Saturday, a Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard interceptor was on routine patrol when they intercepted a pirogue with three occupants on board. 

The vessel and the three occupants were escorted to the Coast Guard Base at Cedros Bay where searches were carried out. 

The TTCG said two crocus bags were found containing a total of 49 packets of what appeared to be marijuana in them, weighing approximately 51.8 kilograms (114 pounds).

The suspects and the packets were turned over to the Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit of the the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). 

Investigations are continuing.
