T&T lose community hero as Hal Greaves passes away
Hal Greaves, the community activist who worked tirelessly to turn the lives of youth around in hotpsots around the country, has died.
Greaves, popular known as Roy from a series of domestic violence skits called Roy and Gloria, passed away on Friday night.
His son, Dane, posted on Facebook that his dad passed away during the night.
He did not state the cause of death.
Greaves' death will be a blow to the people of Laventille,in particular, where he worked tirelessly with the police and other organisations to restore calm following the death of two schoolboys earlier this year.
Speaking on i95.5 FM recently, he said they have registered a 70 percent drop in crime in one community since, helping the youth to pick up books instead of guns.
He headed Project REASON (Resolve Enmity Articulate Solutions Organised Neighbourhoods) to implement classes in literacy, life skills, civics, religious instruction, and sustainable development among other areas for the youth.
Greaves was formerly the Head of Computer Graphics Department and Head Copywriter at Advance Dynamics’ advertising agency, but left his job in 1992 to pursue his dream of acting, following in the footsteps of his father, Jim Greaves.
As an actor, he performed in various plays and Talk Tent as well as in orphanages and children's homes.
More details about Greaves' passing and funeral arrangements will be announced soon.
