According to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Centre, the earthquake was located just 12 kilometres west-south-west of Port of Spain. This is the third earthquake to occur this week: On November 5 a 5.7 earthquake was recorded about 68 kilometres north of Tobago, and on November 6 a 4.2 earthquake was recorded about 61 kilometres north-east of Arima. The earthquake was registered by the Centre's seismological computational system and may vary when additional data is processed.
