T&T swimmer Melissa Nanan wins gold medal at Special Olympic Games

Melissa Nanan, a swimmer from Trinidad and Tobago, has won a gold medal at the Special Olympics International 2019 World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Nanan won the medal today in the 50m freestyle, beating out all competitors in a time of 57.69 at the Hamdan Sports Complex.

Nanan, swimming out of Lane 5, held off a strong challenge from Shanza Munir of SO Pakistan who swam in Lane 2 and finished in 58:33 sec and Carol Berclaz of SO Switzerland who finished in third in 59:48 swimming in Lane 3.

On Friday, the Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago team won its first medal, a silver,  in the Unified Bocce Team competition.
