The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) is conducting a public display of the “Changing of the Guard” ceremony in honour of those who fell in World War I and World War II.
The ceremony will be carried out at the Cenotaph, Memorial Park, Port-of-Spain starting on Friday, November 10 from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and continuing until Sunday from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.
The TTDF says historically, the “Changing of the Guard” was designed to demonstrate military discipline as well as ceremony and is about honouring and remembering those who died in combat, and whose remains are not identifiable.
"These persons not only sacrificed their lives for country, but they also lost their identity. They are considered to have displayed the highest level of military core values - honor, courage and commitment," the TTDF said.
The ceremony entails the posting of a TTDF sentry to guard the cenotaph; the drill movements are precise and will be conducted every hour from 7:00 am.
