TTPS slams fake news on Greenvale flood deaths
The police service is once again seeking to debunk fake news regarding reports of deaths in Greenvale, La Horquetta.
This comes after torrential rains associated with an Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone which began on Wednesday, left thousands displaced along parts of the East/West corridor and Central, Trinidad.
A post headlined, “16 Missing or Dead At Greenvale?”, named residents who were said to be unaccounted for in light of the floods and called on the government to stop denying their disappearance but launch efforts to find them.
However, in response, the TTPS issued the following facts:
1) Police have personally met with the three individuals mentioned in this message and can confirm that they are safely housed at a shelter in La Horquetta
2) La Horquetta Police can also confirm that there are no reports of persons who are currently missing as a result of the recent flooding.
The TTPS is reminding members of the public to be cautious of false information sent via social media which can cause unnecessary panic and anxiety. Residents are urged to stay updated with the TTPS Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for accurate information on matters relating to crime and policing.
