Twitter football critic starts Go Fund Me to visit T&T
A man who incurred the ire of Trinbagonians on Tuesday night when he dissed Trinidad and Tobago following the US Men's team failure at the World Cup qualifier has started a Go Fund Me to visit the twin-island state.
Stephan Sharp said since tweeting that his team did not deserve to go to Russia if they lose to T&T in front of 600 people, he has received many invitations to visit. "On October 10, the US Men's National Soccer Team played a World Cup Qualifier at Trinidad and Tobago, needing a win or tie to qualify for Russia. Needless to say, that didn't happen. After T&T's first goal, I tweeted what's in the picture of the campaign and it took off, first by US Soccer fans equally concerned with missing the World Cup, then later by Trinidad and Tobago fans once the game was over. Some of the many replies and retweets have included invitations to see the islands for myself. So that's what this campaign is for: raising funds for a flight to and a hotel in Trinidad and Tobago so I can get the full experience of everything they have to offer," he said.
Sharp's tweet sent Trini Twitter into a frenzy with many people making fun of his pain.
The Ohio resident eventually conceded that Trini Twitter went hard and he wasn't ready for the backlash.
His good-natured response earned him some advice on how to deal with Trinis and an invitation to experience the country from Port-of-Spain's deputy Mayor Hillan Morean.
Sharp is looking to raise US$2000 to cover his flight and accommodation.
