Two appear in court for unauthorised protest action

Two men who appeared before a Scarborough Magistrate on allegations of staging a protest without permission from the Commissioner of Police have plead ‘not guilty’ to the offence.

As a result, they were both placed on own bail of $5,000 and the matter is expected to go to trial on July 16.

The two accused are Andre Alleyne, 27, of Laventille, and Marvin Ganteaume, 36, of St James.

They were both represented by attorney Alexander Prince.

They were both part of a protest which took place in Scarborough, Tobago on Friday, led by social media activist Kia Jadeana Hosein.

The group was calling on the Government to demit office.

Police said they warned the group several times to desist their actions, however, members moved from the vicinity of the port to the market, and continued.

After further warnings, the two individuals were arrested and subsequently charged.
