Two arrested in car sale scam sting operation in Barataria
Created : 23 March 2019
Two men are currently in police custody after they were held during a sting operation by officers of the North Eastern Division on Friday night.
The exercise, which was supervised by Sgt Guelmo, Cpl Lavia, PC Gervais, and PC Marshall, among several others, was set up in response to a report made in which a vehicle that was advertised for sale on social media sites, did not belong to the seller.
The “buyer” went to meet the “sellers” in the vicinity of Maritime Plaza, Barataria.
However, when the buyer gave the sellers cash, the two men took the money and ran without handing over the keys to the vehicle.
The officers, who were nearby, intervened and gave chase.
They were able to hold the suspects in the vicinity of the Priority Bus Route, near the Fernandes Compound.
The suspects, aged 36 and 43, are both from Mapp Lands, Laventille.
They are expected to be questioned and charged over the weekend.
Police were able to recover all of the money handed over to the suspects.
More on this as it becomes available.
