Two arrested with loaded gun

Two people have been arrested with a loaded firearm following a police exercise in the Northern Division.

The exercise was carried out in the St Joseph district by officers of the St Joseph CID and the Northern Division Task Force between 2 am and 5:30 am on Saturday.

Officers had cause to stop and search a vehicle heading east along Oliver Trace, Mt Dor, with two occupants.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of one black Smith and Wesson pistol outfitted with a magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition in the centre console of the vehicle.

The 21-year-old driver and a 20-year-old suspect were arrested in connection with the find.

The two are expected to be questioned and placed on identification parades in relation to reports of armed robberies in the district.

Once this process is completed, both men will be charged and taken before a Tunapuna Magistrate in the coming week.
