Two arrested with submachine gun in Tunapuna

Police arrested two men and seized a submachine gun and quantity of ammunition and marijuana during a police exercise.

According to a statement issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS, the exercise was conducted by the Special Operations Response Team in Tunapuna today.

At around 12:15am, officers conducted a search of a home at Maingot Road Tunapuna, where they found one Uzi submachine gun fitted with a magazine containing 32 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Two occupants of the home were arrested and taken to the Tunapuna Police Station pending further enquiries.

Officers then conducted a search of a nearby bushy area, where they found and seized three packets of marijuana weighing a total of 622.5 grams.

Investigations are ongoing.
