Two Chinese nationals charged with money laundering

Two Chinese nationals are expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Friday on allegations of money laundering.

The accused are aged 33 and 34 and both reside at Tarouba Road, Marabella.

They were held on July 18 with an estimated $174,000, during a police exercise in Marabella led by Cpl Boodhoo.

Police said they had information that the men were allegedly running gambling machines without licences.

When the officers went to the home, they detained the men with the cash.

The men were unable to give a proper account for the money and as a result inquiries were launched.

They were charged under the Proceeds of Crime Act and the Gambling and Betting Act.

The two are expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate, following which the case is expected to be transferred to the southern district.
