Two in court after police shootout, search on for a third
Two Siparia men are expected to appear before a Tunapuna Magistrate on Tuesday, following an alleged shootout with police.
The incident allegedly took place around 9.30 pm on Sunday and began along the Southern Main Road, Curepe.
Officers of the Northern Division police were on patrol, when they received information of a robbery in progress.
The victim pointed out the assailants as they were about to enter a black Mazda vehicle.
The police attempted to intercept the suspects, however, they drove away.
What followed was a chase throughout the Curepe community, through Bushe Street, Watts Street, and eventually back onto the Southern Main Road.
However, the officers continued their relentless pursuit, even when the bandits allegedly opened fire on the police car.
The officers returned fire, which resulted in the vehicle crashing in the vicinity of East Grove, Valsayn.
The police were able to detain two of the suspects, aged 23 and 24, from Siparia.
A third suspect managed to flee the scene.
However, arrests are said to be imminent.
A 9mm Beretta pistol was found in the vehicle, along with the stolen items.
