Two in custody over fake kidnapping

Two relatives of two teenage cousins from Sangre Grande who were allegedly kidnapped are now in police custody.

The teens were found wandering Scotts Road in Penal last night.

Police have since determined that the kidnapping was false.

The two male relatives, a 39- year-old and 48-year-old, are currently assisting the authorities with their investigations.

Police received information around 5am on Thursday that three people had been kidnapped, while an official report was made by relatives five hours later.

According to the report, Deo Lutchman, his son 16-year-old Darryl Lutchman and his nephew 14-year-old Brandon Sam, all of Oropouche Road, Sangre Grande, were kidnapped by armed men and bundled into a white Tiida, while hunting at Non Pareil Road, Sangre Grande, around 8pm on Wednesday.

The elder Lutchman was subsequently released on Thursday, and a ransom demand of $350,000 made, for the safe return of the teenagers.

Subsequent to the report of the alleged kidnapping and based on information received, officers of the Penal Police Station found the teenagers wandering Scotts Road, Penal, around 8:30pm last evening.

They were taken for a medical examination at the Siparia Health Centre and were reunited with their family, around 3am today.

Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Sangre Grande CID are continuing investigations.
