Two farmers to face court for pumping drain water for crop irrigation

Two Aranguez farmers are expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Wednesday, on allegations of unlawfully abstracting water from a main watercourse without a license.

The two are among several farmers in Aranguez North whose water pumps were seized by officials from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) earlier this month.

The pumps were allegedly being used to siphon water from nearby drains and watercourses to water plants.

The farmers were issued summons to appear in court following this act.

This dry season has been one of the harshest this country has faced in years and WASA has imposed restrictions, clamping down on the use of water hoses and sprinklers.
