Two held after stealing man’s groceries, cellphone

Police have arrested two men and recovered a quantity of stolen items following a robbery with violence in Arima on Sunday.

The victim told police he got into a PH taxi, a silver Nissan Wingroad, along the Arima Old Road around 3.35 pm.

The car had three male occupants.

The victim said two of them began beating him during the journey. He was relieved of his cellular phone, his wallet and a bag of groceries.

He told police he was dropped off by the suspects along Sorzano Street, Arima who then drove off.

A report was made and the investigating officers spotted the Wingroad proceeding along Caroni South Bank Road just a half-hour later.

The vehicle was intercepted with the assistance of officers of the Arouca CID, resulting in two male suspects, a 32-year-old of Laventille and a 20- year-old of Port of Spain being held and the stolen items being recovered.

Investigations are ongoing.
