Two held for robbery of Chinese businessman

Two men are expected to appear before the courts today, after they allegedly robbed a Chinese businessman.

The two men were arrested on Friday after a robbery at Sammy’s Bar along Mt Pleasant Road, Springvale.

According to reports, around 2pm, two armed men walked into the bar and announced a hold up.

They then proceeded to rob several persons at the bar, including a Chinese national, who was operating a roulette machine.

The man was forced to hand over an estimated $20,000, before the bandits fled the scene in a waiting vehicle.

The police were contacted, and a party of officers from the Couva CID, led by Sgt Ali, responded.

Acting on information received, the officers made their way to a house in St Margaret’s Village, Claxton Bay, where they arrested two men, aged 20 and 30.

At the home, the officers allegedly recovered some of the stolen items, as well as a loaded firearm which is believed to have been used in the robbery.
