Two injured after La Horquetta shooting; 23 spent shells found

Twenty-three spent shells were found at the scene of a shooting in La Horquetta on Saturday morning.

The victims are a 22-year-old man and his 26-year-old neighbour.

According to police reports, around midnight on Saturday, the two victims were liming along Freddy Keystone Street, Phase 4, La Horquetta, when a white Nissan Almera pulled alongside them.

Gunshots were heard and the car drove off.

The police and paramedics were notified as the two friends were injured in the incident.

The 22-year-old, police said, suffered severe injuries to his left hand, left and right thigh, and left hip.

He is warded in a serious condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

The 26-year-old suffered a grave to his forehead and was treated and discharged.

CSI found 23-spent 9mm shells at the scene - PC Lambkin is continuing inquiries.

Man held with firearm in 'The Graveyard'

In an unrelated incident, a 23-year-old man was expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Monday after he was held with a loaded firearm in an area known as “The Graveyard” in Maraval.

The suspect, who is from Ordazville Road, Maraval, was held on Friday during a police exercise by officers of the Western Division.

Cpl Roberts and PC Bart were on patrol when they observed the man known to them.

As a result, they stopped and searched the suspect, and in the back of his pant’s waist, they wound and seized a 9mm firearm loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

As a result of the find, the suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody.

Cpl Roberts is continuing inquiries.
