Two killed in Cascade may have been in 'wrong place, at wrong time'

The killings of 16-year-old Micah Payne and 37-year-old Lincoln Gopiechan are being linked to gang activity in the community.

However, police suspect that Payne and Gopiechan were killed because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It is believed that a third victim, an 18-year-old from the Cascade area, was the intended target.

The teenager were questioned by homicide officers at hospital.

Police said the incident may have been related to another shooting in the Cascade/St Ann’s community last week.

Investigators said they have no intelligence that Payne was involved in any criminal activities.

He was a form four student of St Anthony’s College.

According to reports, around 6.50 pm on Thursday a group of friends were liming along Foncette Road, Cascade, when a vehicle pulled alongside them.

Several explosions were heard and the car sped off.

The three victims were all shot.

Payne and Gopiechan succumbed to their injuries, while the 18-year-old was rushed for treatment at a nearby hospital.
