Two men appear in court for false imprisonment, robbery
Two men have appeared before the Arima 1st Magistrates' Court charged with false imprisonment, robbery with violence and assault.
The accused are 33-year-old Roger Kelly and 33-year-old Quincy Simon.
The complainant is a Princes Town man.
Police were told that on November 14, both men took the victim who was visiting the Carapo Masjid, into a room and kept him against his will.
He was allegedly robbed and beaten.
Police arrested the accused along with four other men including Jamaat leader Hassan Ali.
Attorney Fareed Ali is representing the accused.
He said the men were interrogated at various police stations throughout the east-west corridor.
Ali was released along with two other men on Tuesday.
Kelly and Simon were both placed on separate identification parades where they were positively identified by the victim.
Appearing in court and answering to charges of assault by beating and robbery, Magistrate Joanne Connor placed Kelly on $85,000 bail with surety while Simon was placed on $75,000 surety Bail.
In relation to the charge of assault by beating, both men were taken before Magistrate Avion Gill where Kelly’s wife was used as his signed surety and Simon was given cash-bail to the value of $3000,00.
The police complainant was police constable Antoine of the Arima Police Station.
The matter was adjourned to December 18.
