Two men warded after chopping incident in Arouca

Two men are currently warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex following a chopping incident in Arouca.

The victims have been identified as Jabari Hazel, 21, and Randy Phillip, 18.

According to police reports, at about 2:00 am on Thursday, both victims were in the vicinity of the Red Container Shop, Lopinot, when they had an altercation with a man known to them.

During the confrontation, the assailant allegedly pulled out a cutlass and attacked the two men.

Hazel was chopped on his chest and back of his head, while Phillip, who attempted to intervene and save his friend, suffered a chop wound to his right hand.

The suspect then made ran away into a forested area.

Both victims were conveyed to the Arima Health Facility where they were treated, before being transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

The injuries sustained by either men, while serious, are not said to be life-threatening.
