Two more held for smoking weed in public

Police are once again reminding citizens that while marijuana may be decriminalized for personal consumption at home, under the current amendments it remains illegal to smoke the drug in public.

This latest reminder comes after a 26-year-old teacher and a 24-year-old communications specialist were arrested this morning for smoking in public.

According to police reports, at about 2am today officers of the Arouca CID, including PC Kerr and PC Charles, were on patrol in the Trincity community, when, while driving along Trincity Boulevard, they observed a white Nissan X-Trail parked at the side of the roadway.

The officers stopped to check on the car and its occupants to ensure that everything was fine, but upon walking to the vehicle the scent of marijuana was detected.

This raised the suspicions of the two officers.

When they came up to the vehicle, they observed a man and a woman in the SUV smoking an elongated cigarette.

As a result, the two were warned of the offence committed and taken into custody.

PC Charles is continuing inquiries.
