Man, proprietor killed trying to stop Cunupia robbery

A man who attempted to stop a robbery in progress, along with the proprietor of the store, was shot and killed on Wednesday night in Cunupia.

The deceased has been identified as Devindra Maharaj, 44, of Navet Village, Rio Claro, and the proprietor of the store as Wei Qui Ke.

According to initial reports, around 7 pm three men entered the Ho Sing supermarket and announced a hold-up.

Maharaj attempted to stop the men, however, he was shot several times in his back.

During the incident, the proprietor was also shot.

The three men then grabbed valuables from the supermarket and ran into a grey Honda Accord which was waiting outside.

Persons in the area raised an alarm and the two injured parties were rushed for medical treatment.

Maharaj was pronounced dead at the Chaguanas Health Facility.

The proprietor was pronounced dead at 1 am on Thursday at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.

The getaway car was found abandoned at John Peters Road in Charlieville.
