Two Venezuelans among four denied bail on drug trafficking charges
Two Venezuelan nationals were among four persons who appeared before a Rio Claro Magistrate on allegations of drug trafficking.
Venezuelans Oswaldo Jose Jiminez Rivas and Andres Caraballo Mujica, as well as construction workers Paul Singh, 30, and Devon Joseph, 31 both of Moruga appeared before senior magistrate Rae Roopchand on allegations of being in possession of 50.86 killogrammes of marijuana, for the purposes of trafficking.
The drugs, which had an estimated value of $2million, were seized on January 11 at Moruga Road, St Mary’s Village.
The charges were laid indictably and as a result, none of the accused was called upon to enter a plea.
Rivas faced an additional charge of illegally entering this country.
All the defendants were denied bail.
PC Sulliman was the complainant (charging officer) in this matter.
Sgt Mohammed represented the interests of the State as Police Prosecutor.
The Defence comprised of attorneys Subhas Panday and Petronilla Basdeo.
The matter was adjourned to January 29.
