Two women appear in court charged with robbing seven fishermen

Two women have appeared in court charged with robbing seven fishermen.

Eighteen-year-old Loyola John of St. Madeleine and 19-year-old Mya Bowrin of Gasparillo appeared in the Couva Magistrate Court on Wednesday charged with seven counts of robbery.

John was granted bail, however, Bowrin was remanded into custody.

Bowrin reappeared before Couva Magistrate Christine Charles on Friday and was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 after her address was confirmed.

Two other men have been charged in connection with the incident.

On July 22, seven fishermen were beaten and thrown overboard by pirates in the Gulf of Paria near Orange Valley.

Six boat engines were stolen and later recovered by police in the Sea Lots area.

The bodies of five of the fishermen were recovered while two remain missing.
