UK High Commissioner visits Comms Minister amid tension with Gov't
Created : 17 September 2019
Amid tension with the government, the British High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago Tim Stew paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Communications Donna Cox on Tuesday
Among the topics they discussed were mutual areas of cooperation in government communications and the Global Conference on Media Freedom which took place from July 10 to 11 in London.
Minister Cox described the meeting as fruitful.
“I am particularly heartened and interested in the offer from the British High Commission for training in Government Communication for employees of the Ministry of Communications. I look forward to future collaborations with the High Commission,” she said.
This comes on the heels of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley's formal complaint to the UK Government about the BBC's coverage of Trinidad and Tobago's handling of the Venezuelan Migrant issue.
On Tuesday, the UK High Commissioner said his Government would not get involved. However, Dr Rowley demanded a better response.
