Five UNC councilors sworn in to represent Sangre Grande

Five UNC councilors sworn in to represent Sangre Grande

Following their success in the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation in last week’s Local Government Elections, the United National Congress (UNC) have sworn in their five councillors.

Kenwyn Phillip, returns for a second term to represent Manzanilla/Fishing Pond. Anil Juteram also returns for his second term as Councillor for Vega De Oropouche. Juteram was the councillor who said that a presiding officer from the Elections and Boundaries Commission had asked him whether he’d be voting twice.

New to the slate are Calvin Seecharan who will represent the Sangre Grande South district. Nassar Hosein will be responsible for Sangre Grande North West. Anil Maharaj completes the party’s five winning candidates as he taken the oath for Cumuto/Tamana.

The UNC’s win in Sangre Grande was significant, as the district was long known to be marginal and one of the main deciding seats for Local Government.
