UNC PRO: Camille Robinson Regis ‘petty’ for message to Guyana
UNC PRO Anita Haynes is criticising PNM Lady Vice Chair Camille Robinson Regis for her open letter to the Guyanese public, calling for them to reject Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s advice on how to positively manage their newly discovered oil reserve.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Haynes called Robinson Regis’ comments “petty”. She said the statements were “in poor taste and ill-timed”.
“The Minister took the opportunity to carry her petty PNM politics to a regional level by addressing the Guyanese population.”
Haynes also sought to call-out the PNM for their lack of response to a Beetham Highway shooting which saw the son of a union leader shot, cars destroyed and thousands of commuters terrified.
“ Unfortunately, Mrs Robinson Regis failed to realize that the people of Trinidad and Tobago are still waiting to hear from her Government after yesterday's gunfight on the Beetham Highway. Commuters lived through a terrifying ordeal, while her Government remained silent.”
The UNC PRO also questioned why the Government has yet to release a statement on the planned retrenchment of TSTT workers and the details on how they arrived at a decision to close Petrotrin and put thousands on the breadline.
“Given that the Lady Vice Chair felt comfortable to write on matters of Foreign Affairs, outside of her remit, we hope that statements on pressing issues of national importance would be forthcoming,” the statement ended
