UNCHR T&T hosts online festival for World Refugee Day

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Trinidad and Tobago will be showcasing a range of talent to commemorate World Refugee Day, celebrated on June 20 each year.

In a statement, the organisation said the online festival, which takes places form June 18-26, 2020, "celebrates the artistic and musical talents of refugees, asylum-seekers, and the communities that host them".

Among the events is a concert, to “debut” online on June 20, featuring Kes the Band, Freetown Collective, and musicians from across the world.

"UNHCR, The UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to protecting rights and building a better future for displaced people. Worldwide, more than 70.8 million people are displaced — one person every two seconds."

"This year’s theme is Everyone Can Make a Difference. Every Action Counts. “ In our shared vulnerability during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as against the backdrop of recent protests against racism, our strength as humans lies in our unity,” states Leila Jane Nassif, Chief of Mission of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in Trinidad and Tobago. “We all have a role to play.”
