Doreen Dyer, the Jamaican woman who appears to be beating her daughter with a machete in a viral video, has been charged with cruelty to a child.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
Dyer, a resident of Bath in St Thomas, is to appear in court next Monday, October 9.
The video of the mother beating her daughter - which was shot last November but only surfaced on social media over the weekend - has triggered widespread condemnation across Jamaica, including from the Child Development Agency which has reiterated its call for a full ban on corporal punishment.
However, another daughter of Dyer's, has defended her mother, and said the woman's action was 'tough love' in response to her sister misbehaving.
