US Navy member assaulted during J'ouvert

A San Fernando mother is calling for justice after she said she and her daughters, one of them a member of the US Navy, were beaten by approximately 20 persons during J'ouvert celebrations in San Fernando.

Speaking to LoopTT, Desiree Baird said she and her daughter, 19-year-old Naval personnel officer Tionne Atwell of California, were attacked and robbed by the group of people.

The incident took place around 9:00 am in San Fernando.

Atwell reportedly received several injuries about her body.

She said when they went to officers who were nearby, they were accused of fighting back. Baird said the officers did nothing to apprehend the suspects.

She said she and her other daughter, 14, were also attacked.

The family then filed a report at the San Fernando Police Station, where officers were able to find some of the suspects.

She said her daughter has been very traumatised by the experience.

"My daughter needs justice," she said.
