US praises Rowley's election victory

The United States has offered congratulations to Dr Keith Rowley on being elected Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago for a second consecutive five-year term.

Dr Rowley was sworn in on Wednesday, nine days after the August 10 polls. He was confirmed the victor on Tuesday when the Elections and Boundaries Commission released the official results of the recount conducted in six marginal seats.

The acting Assistant Secretary for the United States Department of State's Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Michael Kozak, praised the free and fair elections as he applauded Dr Rowley in a tweet today.

He said: "Today the people of Trinidad and Tobago swear in a prime minister, elected in a transparent process that accurately reflects their will. The United States congratulates Dr Keith Rowley on his election victory, & wishes the people of Trinidad and Tobago continuing prosperity."
