Usain Bolt giving JMD $1M to children's home after deadly fire

Sprint icon Usain Bolt will be contributing $1 million Jamaican dollars (Approximately $8060 USD) to assist wards of the Walker’s Place of Safety who were displaced by Monday night’s deadly fire that claimed the lives of two girls, aged 13 and 16.

The 34 wards who escaped the inferno will be housed at three other children’s homes, according to Floyd Green, the Minister of State for Youth.

The children’s home which is located at 17 Lyndhurst Avenue in Kingston was gutted by the blaze.

The $1 million will be made available from the Usain Bolt Foundation that was established in 2011. Chairman of the Foundation Winsome Wilkins says Bolt was moved by the tragedy at the home.

She said the money will be handed over by Bolt next week to the Child Protection and Family Services Agency.
