UTT denies reports of further retrenchments
While a meeting is carded for Monday at the Chaguanas Campus of the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), the University has denied that there are any further retrenchments expected.
UTT on Monday rubbished a report in a daily newspaper headlined: "More UTT retrenchments expected today”.
The University said the headline was “inaccurate, false and misleading”.
It explained that a meeting is on Monday between UTT and OWTU, as the University continues negotiations on the restructuring process and other related matters.
Staff members are aware that negotiations are ongoing and the University will not implement any measures which have not been negotiated with the Union and to which the Union is not fully informed, the University added.
UTT restated that five members of academic staff who were informed last month that their contracts will not be renewed, are on secondment (temporary transfer to another position) and have the option to return to their substantive positions at the organisations to which they are employed.
