Valencia man charged with gun possession, resisting arrest

A 33-year-old Valencia man was denied bail when he appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate on Monday, charged with possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

Nehru Mohammed of Clarence Trace appeared before Senior Magistrate Debra Quintyne in the Sangre Grande 1st Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charges.

He was arrested by officers of the Sangre Grande CID, Task Force and Crime Patrol Unit, who responded to a report of a man seen with a firearm at Clarence Trace around 1:20 pm on November 26. The officers confronted the accused shortly after and attempted to disarm him. During the struggle, the firearm; a pistol and an empty magazine were retrieved and the man arrested.

Mohammed was charged by PC Arvin Boodram of the Sangre Grande CID.

The matter was adjourned to November 29.
