Vehicle search turns up loaded pistol

A police exercise in Couva on Thursday led to the discovery of a pistol and a quantity of ammunition and saw the arrests of three people.

The exercise coordinated and supervised by ASP (Ag.) Michael Pierre and including officers of the Couva CID, Crime Patrol and Major Crimes Unit and Canine Branch, was conducted between midday and 8 pm.

During the exercise, officers had cause to stop and search a blue Nissan Tiida, which was proceeding along Exchange Road, Couva, with three male occupants.

The search resulted in a Kimber Yonkers pistol, loaded with six rounds of 9mm ammunition being discovered in the vehicle.

The three occupants - a 29-year-old San Raphael man, a 24-year-old Cunupia man and a 32- year-old Chaguanas man, were arrested in connection with the find.

Officers then proceeded to an abandoned shack along the same road, where they found one Walther pistol, loaded with two rounds of .38mm ammunition.

No arrest was made in connection with this find.
