Vehicle used in PoS murder seized
A vehicle which is suspected to have been used in the killing of 70-year-old Rupert Ellis Derrick has been seized.
The vehicle, a new model Nissan X-Trail, was seized along Constitution Hill, Laventille, and is currently being examined in Cumuto by crime scene investigators for evidential materials including workable prints.
The vehicle is also suspected to have been used in a robbery on January 3 in Chaguanas.
The SUV was seized by officers of the Stolen Vehicle’s Squad, the Besson Street Police Station, and the Homicide Bureau, under the supervisions of Snr Sup Daniel, ASP Edwards, Sgt St Clair, Sgt Dolloway, and PC Smith and WPC Paul.
On the night of January 14, Derrick, of Picton Road, Laventille, was fatally shot along George Street, Port of Spain.
Three other persons, identified as Tenelle Rene and Terrance Cordner, both of Nelson Street, Port of Spain, and Henry Fraser of Quarry Street, Laventille, were injured in this incident.
The shooting was said to have been conducted by the occupants of a vehicle which was driving down along the road.
The occupants, police said, appeared to have opened fire haphazardly at persons standing along the roadway, hitting four.
All injured parties were rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital, however, Derrick succumbed to his injuries.
