Vendor in court for indecent assault at market

A Port of Spain vendor has been charged for indecent assault.

Martin Rivers, 24, from Rio Claro, appeared before Magistrate Marisa Gomez in the Seventh Court on Monday.

PC Michael Fabres of the Port of Spain City Police was the charging officer in this matter.

It was alleged that around 8.30 am on October 13, at the Central Market in Port of Spain, the Rivers sexually assaulted a 27-year-old woman.

The woman notified the police, and a team of officers led by Sgt McShine, Cpl John, and PC Fabres, conducted inquiries, which led to River’s arrest.

Rivers pleaded not guilty to the offence yesterday meaning the matter will go to trial.

He was granted bail at $80,000 and ordered to stay at least 500 meters away from the victim.

The matter was then adjourned to November 7.
