Venezuelan asylum seeker killed in road accident

Police are investigating the death of a Venezuelan national.

The deceased has been identified as 37-year-old Alberto Carillo.

He was killed last Thursday evening while attempting to cross the Manzanilla Road.

He was struck by a vehicle.

The driver of this car, later told police that Carillo came “out of nowhere” and that he did not see the 37-year-old as he attempted to cross the roadway.

Carillo, police said, was originally from Maturín, Venezuela.

He came to this country and was able to successfully attain political asylum in March.

An autopsy was performed Monday at the Forensic Science Center, the results of which will make up the foundations for continued inquiries by officers of the Eastern Division.

More on this as it becomes available.
