Venezuelan father of two identified as accident victim
The man who was killed in yesterday’s road traffic accident along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway has been identified as 51-year-old Jose Rafael Quintana.
Quintana was a Venezuelan national who had recently arrived in the country to work to provide for his wife and two children.
He was hit by a truck just before 7 am yesterday along the eastbound lane of the highway.
The driver of the truck, a 49-year-old man from Morvant, is currently aiding with inquiries.
An autopsy performed yesterday at the Forensic Science Center in St James confirmed that Quintana died as a result of blunt force trauma consistent with impact from a vehicle.
In an unrelated incident, a 32-year-old man is currently warded at the San Fernando General following a motor vehicular accident in Golconda.
Police reported that at about 2.30 am on Thursday, they received a report of a road traffic accident along the Golconda Interchange of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway.
PC Thompson and a party of officers from the Highway Patrol responded.
When the officers arrived on the scene, they found a Nissan Teana crashed at the side of the roadway.
Inside the car, they found the driver, a scaffolder from Peterloo Street, San Fernando.
He was taken to the hospital by officials from the Emergency Health Services, and was placed in the high dependency unit in a critical condition.
WPC Elliot is continuing inquiries.
