A Venezuelan national has appeared before a Rio Claro Magistrate, charged with the murder of his wife, Katherine Diaz.
Jose Goregorio Guerra appeared before Senior Magistrate Rae Roopchand.
Moonilal Ragbir provided aid to the court via translations for the proceedings.
After the charges were read, the matter was adjourned to June 6.
Guerra was remanded in custody till then as murder is one of this country’s non-bailable offences.
On the early morning of May 5, Diaz was stabbed repeatedly along King Street, Princes Town.
The mother of four children aged 12, seven, five and three, was also a Venezuelan national and had only arrived in Trinidad by boat seven days before she was fatally stabbed, suffering injuries to her abdomen, leg, back and arm.
Despite being rushed for medical treatment, Diaz died at the Princes Town District Hospital around 6:00 am that day.
