Venezuelan man charged with raping girlfriend

A Venezuelan man has been charged with raping of his girlfriend and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

The accused is Robert Adonis Ramos Vasquez, who resides along Gonzales Street, Point Fortin.

Vasquez was due to appear before the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court charged with the offence which allegedly occurred at his girlfriend’s Curepe home on January 2.

Submissions for bail are expected to be heard in this morning’s hearing.

WPC Pelage is the complainant (charging officer) in the matter.

The charges stem from an incident which occurred around 4.00 am on January 2.

The victim told police that her boyfriend allegedly visited her house and, armed with a knife, forced her to engage in sexual activities.

During the ordeal, the woman was further assaulted.

After the suspect left the woman notified officers of the St Joseph police station who conducted inquiries, which led to the suspect’s arrest.

More on this as it becomes available.
