Venezuelan man in court for fraudulent passport

A 45-year-old Venezuelan national, who went to register in San Fernando, was held with a tampered passport.

The accused, Carlos Enrique Vargus, 45, appeared before Magistrate Indar Jagroo in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court.

He plead not guilty to the offence, telling the court he did not know about any tampering.

The charge was laid by PC Chiteransingh.

After further submissions, he was granted bail at $5,000 and the matter was adjourned to June 14.

It was alleged that while Vargus was registering at the Achievor’s Banquet Hall in San Fernando on Sunday, officials realised the passport he had presented had been tampered with.

The police were notified and investigations were launched, which led to the arrest and charge.

More on this as it becomes available.
