Venezuelan's fingers severed in Carenage chopping

A 32-year-old Venezuelan national has undergone surgery after two of his fingers were chopped off on Thursday morning.

The victim has been identified as Juan Carlos Esperanza.

Around 9.30 am, Esperanza was near the seafront at Smith Hill, Carenage along with a group of men when they got into an argument with the suspect.

The group was attacked by the cutlass wielding man who chopped Esperanza to the right hand, severing his ring and small fingers. 

He was taken to the St James Medical Facility where he was treated and subsequently transferred to the hospital for surgery
