Venezuelan minors among 20 foreign nationals held at PoS hotel
Police have detained 20 female foreign nationals, including three minors, who are in the country illegally.
Several other establishments in Woodbrook were searched during the exercise.
The 20 women were detained at a hotel along Dundonald Street, Port of Spain, by officers of the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department during a strategic police intervention exercise conducted in the Port of Spain Division which began on Friday night and ended Saturday morning.
Officers proceeded to Copa Cabana Hotel, Dundonald Street, Port of Spain, where they found the women; 11 adult Venezuelans, three Venezuelan minors; two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old, along with five Dominicans and one Cuban.
A check of their documents revealed that they were in the country illegally.
The foreign nationals were taken to various police stations for processing and investigations are ongoing.
The exercise included officers of the Port of Spain Division Task Force and Canine Branch.
A series roadblocks exercises were also executed in the Division on Friday night at Piccadilly on the Greens, Old St. Joseph Road, Eastern Main Road, St. Ann’s Roundabout and Wrightson Road, near the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
A total of 51 road checks were made, during which two persons were arrested on outstanding warrants.
