Venezuelan nationals chopped during robbery
Two Venezuelan nationals are said to be warded in a serious condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex nursing chop wounds.
The victims, identified as 27-year-old Louis Herrera, and 47-year-old Juan Moreno, were attacked in an incident in Felicity on Tuesday night.
According to police reports, the two men were at an apartment located along Abidh Street, Felicity, when at about 8:15pm, two men armed with cutlasses forced their way into the building.
The men announced a hold up and demanded that the two nationals hand over cash and valuables.
However, when the victims were unable to produce any large quantities of money, they were chopped by the assailants.
Herrera was chopped on his left arm, while Moreno received injuries to his head and left forearm.
The assailants eventually fled the scene, only with a drill and a cellular phone.
The police and emergency health services were notified and a team of officers from the Chaguanas police station, under the supervision of Snr Supt Inraj Balram, ASP Richard Smith, and Insp Marlon Alexander, visited the scene.
The wounded men were rushed to the Chaguanas District Hospital where they were treated, before being transferred to the medical complex.
Police believe that the two victims were targeted because they were construction workers at a nearby site, and the assailants may have believed that the two men had access to funds or materials from the area.
More on this as it becomes available.
