Victorious TT Soca Racers return home
Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, The Honourable Darryl Smith was on hand to welcome the Trinidad and Tobago Soca Racers who just returned home to a brief welcome reception on Tuesday, November 14, after the recently concluded final leg of the 2017 Caribbean Motor Racing Championship held in Guyana.
In his brief address to the contingent, Minister Smith congratulated the team on an outstanding performance despite the challenges faced. The team managed to secure well over 1,000 points overall which allowed them to return home with what he described as, “the most prestigious title in our region for motorsport,” for the second time.
Minister Smith reminded those in attendance that 2017 has been the most successful year in sport for Trinidad and Tobago and pledged the Ministry’s continued support to the motorsport fraternity as they prepare to host the first leg of the 2018 CMRC right here at home in March 2018.
He also urged corporate Trinidad to get involved and witness the comradery, action, and safety of the sport as our team continues to represent our country with great pride.
“As Minister, I have mandated the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) to get more youth and females in sport and I commend the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Association for heeding the call,” he said.
